In 2006 we, Alexander and Manuel Bickenbach, founded FRISBEEFILMS to produce films that would add a new flavor to Germany’s cinema industry.
Growing up together we always shared our love of opera, theater and cinema. We gained practical experience working at television networks, theatrical distributors and production companies. Both of us went on to study Business Administration and then production at the renowned Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg. Later we took part in the master class program “The Hollywood Perspective” at UCLA.
At FRISBEEFILMS we have proven to have the right touch when it comes to recognizing outstanding talent and choosing exceptional cinematic subjects. The feature films we have produced were successes in theaters and on television. They were screened at German and international film festivals and went on receive numerous accolades.
Our first major success NEVERMORE was awarded the Student Oscar by the Academy of Motion Pictures of Arts & Science in Los Angeles. 66/67 – FAIRPLAY IS OVER was honored with the “Golden Icon Award” at the International Zurich Film Festival. 1ST OF MAY: ALL BELONGS TO YOU was shown as the opening film of the Berlinale section “Perspektive Deutsches Kino”. Both GRAVITY and LET THE CAT OUT OF THE BAG won the “First Steps Award” and received many more awards at the renowned Max Ophüls Festival. GRAVITY even won the “Best Feature Film” category. SHORES OF HOPE was presented at the Toronto Film Festival, KING ORDINARY celebrated its international premiere at the 2014 International Palm Springs Film Festival and STEREO was shown in the PANORAMA section of the 2014 Berlinale.
Over the past decade, our company has succeeded in building up a close-knit network of highly talented filmmakers, always focusing on developing our very own handwriting and long-term collaborations.
Our latest productions, Timon Modersohn’s PLAYMAKER (2018), Sven Taddicken’s ORIGINAL BLISS (2016), Maximilian Erlenwein’s STEREO (2014), David Dietl’s KING OF GERMANY (2013) and Toke Hebbeln’s SHORES OF HOPE (2012) are strong examples of our visual and narrative courage and the wide creative range of FRISBEEFILMS.
